Brian Keane @ City Limits

It is completely unnatural how happy live music makes me, its a high that is indescribable to anyone who isn’t in to it.  No matter what kind of day I am having or what is going on, put me in a room with someone playing some really good music and you can’t keep me from grinning.  I grinned A LOT last night.

I first heard Brian Keane several months ago. {you may know him as ‘that guy who wrote “You Left Me For Jesus” with Hayes Carll, and he used to be with this ‘little’ band called The Band of Heathens}  Shayne Hollinger spun one of his new tunes on The Vault called “Forbidden”.  I immediately went in search of this song and couldn’t find it anywhere, so I downloaded another of Brian’s albums “I Ain’t Even Lonely” and put it on repeat while I continued to search.  The new album “90 Miles An Hour” wasn’t available yet.  So I did what any junkie would do and went to the source, creeping Brian on Facebook and messaging him with the “where can I find this song, I have to have it, please tell me its available” message.  Within a couple of hours it was in my email box.  Talk about make a fan for life!  So then when the album came out, I bought it off iTunes the day it released and it is now a regular on repeat.  So my buddy “Rita” and I were already planning on going to see Matt Wayne & Co. last night in Stephenville at Bostocks, but we got a bonus Brian Keane was playing across town before Matt went on, so we went to both shows.  I will post Matt’s pics later, but we will start with Brian’s set.almost all of the shots I got were edited in Black and White, City Limits has the worst lighting ever, which makes me soo sad because I really wanted some awesome shots.  It wasn’t even the typical ‘all red’ lights, just bad lighting period.

Brian’s wife is Rachel Loy, she plays Bass, sings, and is just an all around badass.  Check out her site, listen to her music because its really good, I mean really good.  Mean to Me and Stay are my favorites.  They are one of those couples who are so in love with each other its written all over their faces.  Too stinking cute, and Brian is so obviously proud of her.  She will be playing with Charlie Worsham on the Taylor Swift Tour this summer, and thats not even the tip of the iceberg of the cool gigs she has lined up.  Spend some time on her site and read her bio, it will blow you away.  These have to be two of the nicest and most genuine people I have met in this ‘scene’.  This shot is really dark, but I love it anyway.  Thanks for the great music!  Up Next – Matt Wayne & Company

Tornado Relief Benefit @ Grady’s 66

What a great thing.  While I was in Oklahoma I went to Grady’s 66 in Yukon for a benefit.  They raised over $15,000 in one day, in one bar!  AWESOME.  Mike McClure, Stoney LaRue, Camille Harp & Aron Holt performed, along with two Quails I know.  If you haven’t stopped by Grady’s 66 you need to and fast.  Really nice venue for live music, one of those bar’s you walk into and immediately get a good vibe.

great music. great venue. great cause.

Monday Night Madness – The Damn Quails – The Deli, Norman Oklahoma

The only response to The Damn Quails is WOW.  They are one of the most unique bands I have ever seen or heard.  Phenomenal is another word that would work.  I got the chance to see them live for the first time in Norman @ The Deli a couple of weeks back, and I can’t wait till I get to see them again.  They will be releasing their first studio album produced my Mike McClure, in August and you should buy it the day its available.  Bryon White

Gabriel Marshall

Knuts or Canoe (tomato or Tomatoe) Oh yeah he also plays with a little band called Jonathan Tyler and The Northern Lights, you may have heard of them, they are kind of a big deal
Ryan Engleman from Turnpike Troubadours sat in with them along with…Nick Jay of Jonathan Tyler & the Northern Lights.

Larry Joe Taylor Recap….

Obviously, the site is undergoing some renovations. I have decided to go to a blog format.  We shall see how this goes….no promises, but here’s hoping.

Although Larry Joe Taylor’s Music Festival was over a month ago, I decided that the first blog post should really be a recap.  I was a LJT virgin, and probably still only got to second base, only being there for one night doesn’t really do it justice.  I went for Friday night, to see Six Market Blvd. and hung around for No Justice, Mike McClure Band (I was really looking forward to seeing them), Reckless Kelly & Creager.  As you will no doubt notice, only Mike McClure and Six Market are posted, I will post the others later.  Six Market Blvd…..what to say, WOW.  These guys are very near and dear to my heart, so I am probably biased, but they put on one hell of a show.  The crowd had gathered and started chanting 30 minutes before their set, it was amazing.  Josh SerratoJosh Serrato never fails to entertain.

Josh Serrato & Scott NealI will never get tired of seeing these two play together, so much fun

Clayton LanduaClayton…my favorite Ginger

Ben HusseyBen is amazing, and he is wearing a shirt benefiting his friend Austin Biggers, catch one of Six Market’s shows and pick one up, all proceeds go to a great cause.

Dallas NealDallas and Uncle Bob, I was pretty far away from the drum kit and hate that I missed out on most of the faces Dallas regularly makes while playing.

Scott NealScott and his red hat, that I will one day burn.

Matt Wayne & Bart RoseMatt Wayne & Bart Rose took the stage and helped the guys out.  You can check Matt out here and Bart Rose out here.  I will not even start to explain the phone number, lets just say Matt was getting even.

Now on to the infamous Mike McClure and the Mike McClure Band.  You know how sometimes you think you are just thinking something in your head, but oops you said it out loud and not only out loud but loud enough for several people to here….yeah I was the dork that let that happen in front of Mike McClure.  Thank goodness I was saying something nice.

I was lucky enough to get to hang out with Mike at Larry Joe, and it was an experience.  As you will see in blog posts to come we will be working on some things together and I can’t wait to work with him even more.  He is just one of those artistic geniuses that you hope rub off on when you are around him.  He is also a really nice guy even if he is just a little whacky. Check Mike’s Blog out here.

Mike McClureBy far one of my favorite live shots ever.

Skinner & WaldoWaldo & Skinner – these guys a fantastic

RIta, Mike & WaldoBackstage we ran into Rita Ballou, if you don’t know who she is, you should, she is hilarious.  Check out her blog at www.rawhideandvelvet.com and bookmark it, you will want to come back.

Mike, Rick, Keith & BrianI also got to sit in with Rick and Brian while they filmed Mike and Keith Sykes for the Larry Joe Taylor DVD, which was really cool.

All in all I will wrap this up with WOW.  It was a great night.

Coming up….Gypsy Soule 2011 Shoot, Rodney Parker & 50 Peso Reward, a trip to the Zoo and a weekend in Oklahoma with McClure and The Damn Quails…..It’s gonna get good, so come back soon.
